The daily newspapers are the most trustworthy sources of local and world news, says Vasea Paka.

One of 30 winners drawn in The Fiji Times‘ 152nd anniversary promotion, Mr Paka said he was proud and lucky to have his name drawn after entering only twice since the promotion began.

He said this was the first time for him to win in such a promotion. Mr Paka said newspapers were still the best source of local and world news and he, as an avid news consumer of both dailies in Fiji, encouraged others to also pick up the papers every day and have a read.

The 74-year-old Rotuma-Taveuni native, who recently retired to his wife’s village in Ra, said after 32 years as a land surveyor, he decided to retire to the countryside to plant but even the slower pace of country life did not stop him from keeping up to date with current affairs.

He said the prize would go towards his wife, and son, and his Christmas celebrations.
