THE Fiji Transfers Namatakula Rugby League team are the official winners of the fourth round of the Vodafone Fiji National Rugby League Nines tournament defeating Kinoya Eagles 16-4 at the USP Grounds in Suva yesterday.
Committee member and Fiji Transfers proprietor Isoa Batibasaga said they had worked hard to secure the win and thanked the boys for the sacrifice they had to make to be part of the tournament.
“I just want to thank the boys, they did well. We had just started last week and on the way up we were hoping that we would win this competition,” he said.
With the players largely code hoppers with most being rugby union players Batibasaga said the change has not been a hurdle for the team.
“The players develop more when they play both codes and I know that union but they have the strength and the knowledge to play both codes,” he said.
The team had led 10-0 at half time with two tries one of which was unconverted. Five minutes into the second spell they conceded a penalty that the Eagles cashed in on, earning themselves four points. Their joy was short-lived with the Nadroga team quickly responded with another converted try, contributing to the final tally.
The next nines tournament is scheduled for Nausori next week.
