THE Walesi OTT Mobile App was launched in Suva today by the Attorney-General and Minister for Communication Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

With the high penetration of smart phones globally including Fiji, the app comes in handy for people to watch live television from their phones through the new app.

The app also comes as the country transitions to digital TV.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said around 82,000 had switched on to Walesi out of the 120,000 households which have access to television in the country.

“The OTT we are lunching today, it is a potential revenue  not just for the internet providers  but also an opportunity for television  companies  as well,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

The app is available now for download free of charge on Play Store for Android phones and Apple Store for iPhone users.

About Walesi:
Walesi is Fiji’s digital television service. Walesi provides a platform that delivers high quality digital content from Fiji’s broadcasters directly to your home. To connect to Walesi, you would need a set top box which will bring you several digital channels, including new Walesi exclusive channels.

Walesi was rolled out nationwide in December last year after several trials. Through this, Fijians around the country are able to watch eight channels on free to air television.
