New planes for airline

Listen to this article:

TWO new Airbus A350 will be added to the Fiji Airways fleet by the end of the year.

This was confirmed by Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum in Parliament on Monday.

He said the acquisition of the aircraft was well underway with the first delivered by November and the second in December.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said the planes would start with their commercial entry by the end of December.

“Of course to get this aircraft up and running we need to train our staff,” he said.

He said two Fijian pilots, including local check and training captains, have completed training in Singapore.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said six pilots and the Fiji Airways chief pilot were undergoing training in Singapore.

“Majority of A330 pilots will also undergo A350 training; these pilots will be fully qualified for A350 before the first aircraft enters into commercial service in December this year,” he said.
