FIJI’S Speaker of Parliament Dr Jiko Luveni says the date of the opening of the new Parliament session for the next term of Government is yet to be confirmed.

She was among distinguished guests at the swearing-in ceremony of FijiFirst party leader Voreqe Bainimarama as Prime Minister for the party’s second term in office for the next four years.

“Now that the swearing-in of the Prime Minister is done, we will now go on to the swearing-in of ministers and MPs. But for the time being, I am still into the process because I am still the Speaker of Parliament until the day before the swearing-in, so between now and that day, I will be seeing the process,” Dr Luveni said.

She said MPs would undergo training before they were sworn-in.

“After the swearing-in of MPs and ministers, they will elect the next Speaker for Parliament.

“Now that we have a whole lot of new MPs, before having the swearing-in ceremony, we need to do some training so that they can be familiar with what will happen during the swearing-in.

“We hope that runs smoothly once the time comes, after that we will discuss the new opening session of Parliament.”
