Shekinah Law Fiji will now represent a Congolese national accused of murdering his wife in Suva last year.

Kiala Lusaka allegedly murdered 44-year-old Jennifer Downes at Service St in Suva in July last year.

The accused is charged with one count of murder.

His case was called before Justice Daniel Goundar at the High Court in Suva yesterday.

Appearing on instructions from the Fiji Law Society (FLS), lawyer Varea Seduadua told the court that their law firm, Shekinah Law Fiji, would represent the accused in the matter and this would be done pro-bono.

The matter arose following Legal Aid Commission’s decision to withdraw representation from the case.

The court was informed that the accused had all the disclosures and information relating to the case and Justice Goundar said the court could not move forward in the matter unless the accused was produced in court.

The case has been adjourned to June 8.
