More than 5600 lease files would be serviced out of the Lands Ministry’s new Nadi office.

While opening the new office, Minister for Lands and Infrastructure Jone Usamate said this aligned with the ministry’s decentralisation of services and structural reforms program.

“Now the lessees in Nadroga will no longer need to travel to Lautoka for a distance of almost 90 kilometres for any State land lease services,” he said.

“All State land services will now be offered in your home town here in Nadi.

“The Nadi Office will be responsible for delivering services to 5685 lease files.

“This includes 4210 files for Nadi and 1475 files for Sigatoka and a team of eight dedicated officials who will be serving the two districts.

“The Nadi office will carry on the normal operation of general customer services and the ground works such as lease inspection and file submissions for new lease application, consent to land dealings, complaints and general land enquiries.”

He said Nadi was one of the highest growing areas in Fiji in terms of businesses and investments.

“It is also at the heart of the tourism sector and it is also a very significant part of the sugar industry.

“This is the second development in terms of services that we have in the West. “We are opening up some smaller subsidiary offices that will fit in line with our main West office.”

He said services such as general land enquiries, survey services, foreshore applications and gravel extraction applications would be received at the new office before they were referred to the main Lautoka office for further processing.

“By bringing our services to the people of Nadroga and Nadi, the ministry anticipates greater work efficiency and transparency, better governance and encourage local development.”
