The new Korovula Bridge on Vanua Levu opened from 10am today and is expected to benefit thousands of people from better and improved access.

The bridge is located along Nabouwalu road between Seaqaqa and Savusavu intersection.

According to the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA), the new bridge is a steel beam structure with a concrete deck driven on H piles having a length of 18m single span with two lanes, 60m of bridge approaches on each side and a 2m wide footpath on one side.

It is protected with 120m of guardrails on each side.

FRA chief executive Jonathan Moore said the new bridge would benefit the public travelling to and from Savusavu and Nabouwalu.

“It also links the Nabouwalu Jetty and Savusavu Jetty in transporting goods to Labasa,” Mr Moore said.
