New fire station

I READ with interest in the FT on 27/10/2016 the commissioning of the new fire station at Korolevu.
While this is very admirable and I am certain will be of benefit to the community on the Coral Coast, the lack of rapid response to calls to these emergency services is extremely worrying. Recently, I had the misfortune of being involved in an accident at my residence.
A ladder collapsed under me and I fell approximately four to five metres on to the concrete drive, causing a bad injury to my ankle and back.
We attempted to ring 911, the ambulance and fire emergency number seven times to no avail, each time we were diverted to nothing.
There are normal landline numbers, but they were diverting as well.
I don’t see the point of having an emergency call number i.e. 911 if it is not manned.
It seems to me that if you are unable to contact the emergency services then you may have to fight the house fire by yourself.
Hence my worry, all very well having nice new NFA stations but not much sense if you cannot contact them.
