New Caledonia hopes to lift 7s standard

NEW CALEDONIA believed the experience learnt from the 2017 Oceania 7s Championship would help them at the 2017 Pacific Mini Games.

New Caledonia team manager Bruno Salvai said Fiji was a best place to learn rugby.

“Oceania 7s was one of the good tournaments to get the experience and expose the players to the high level competition,” he said.

“We had a mix of good players.

“Our aim was to prepare for the Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu next month.”

Fiji Airways Fiji 7s team defeated New Caledonia 35-0 in their first match in the tournament at the ANZ Stadium in Suva on Friday.

And after the match the New Caledonians opted to take a photo with their Fijian brothers and Olympic gold medallist Fiji 7s team players and showed a true Pacific way.

“We want to win matches in the Pacific Mini Games,” he added.

“The players have responded well.”

The Pacific Mini Games will be held from December 4-15 in Vanuatu.
