The care and quality of living at Father Law Home in Wailekutu, Lami is expected to undergo a facelift with the appointment of a new management board and website launch last week.

Archbishop Peter Loy Chong announced last week that the home, which provides care and shelter for 30 aged residents, had new board members which included board chairman Shipping Services (Fiji) Ltd chief executive officer Jeffery Lin, lawyer Liliwaimanu Vuiyasawa, Shipping Services (Fiji) Ltd managing director Bernard Hong Tiy, Lami Kava managing director Donny Yee, Eyesite managing director Shaheen Asgar, Harcourts Fiji managing director Shivas Singh, Fiji Chemicals Ltd and Weta Coffee director Darran Bentley Fisher and financial controller Shipping Services (Fiji) Ltd Anish Chand.

Mr Lin said the new website would help raise awareness about Father Law Home.

“People of every ethnicity and religion visit the home in Wailekutu outside Lami to offer food, toiletries, clothes and other gifts for the 30 men and women residing there,” he said.

“While the home is provided with a modest annual grant from the Government, any assistance in cash and kind is always greatly welcomed.”

He said the home’s expenses largely involved food, medicine for the residents, transportation to the hospital for treatment therapy, staff members wages and maintenance of the facilities and vehicle.

Sister-in-charge of the home, Mere Lauwai, said caring for the aged, especially those who live with chronic medical conditions, had its challenges for both caregivers and residents.

“But the happiness we see and the gratitude we receive from the residents at the end of the day is reward enough for the nine full-time staff of the home.”

Mr Lin also acknowledged the assistance of William Dalituicama and Netani Rika for developing the new website.
