BASKETBALL Fiji will launch some new equipments in Namaka, Nadi today.
The equipments will be officially launched by Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, Margaret Twomey. The backboards and rims were purchased under Basketball Fiji’s Hoops for Health program which is partnership between the International Australian Government’s Pacific Sports Partnerships and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).
Hoops for Health trains local coaches to develop and deliver basketball clinics to primary and secondary schools as well as local communities, raising awareness of non-communicable diseases and addressing them by promoting a healthy, active lifestyle. Basketball Fiji has also expanded its Hoops for Health with four Nadi primary schools currently in the program and monthly Mum’s a Hero sessions since March.
In addition, the new equipment will help improve the standard and quality of matches organised by the Nadi Basketball Association, who hope to host international team tours transiting through Nadi International Airport.
