PROMINENT secondary school netters are most likely to secure their spot in the main 12-member team to represent Fiji Secondary School for the International Secondary Schools Netball Talent in Gold Coast, Australia next month.
Former Fiji Pearls Lydia Panapasa, Tuipolotu Vulimailaucala, Aliti Tauribau and Elenoa Gukirewa were among the 18 netters, who participated at the trials in Suva on Saturday.
Head coach Jo Qalo said the competition among the players to secure a spot in the main team was tough. He said all netters gave their best — giving the selectors a hard time in selecting the final team.
“It was a tough competition and some old reps really stood out during the trials,” said Qalo.
“The talent on display today was promising and all netters gave their best to convince the selectors for a spot in the final team.”
Qalo said the team faces tough battle as the girls face-off with South Africa, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand during the competition.
“We are confident of selecting a powerful side for the competition,” Qalo said.
Fiji hosted the tournament last year and fielded two teams for the event. One team was selected by Fiji Netball and another was represented by Fiji Secondary Schools. The team for the Gold Coast competition will be selected by Fiji Secondary Schools Netball Association.
