Netters focus on victory

MENTAL preparations is the key to Suva Methodist Primary School’s (SMPS) netball feat today.

SMPS will field four teams – the under-9, two teams in the U10 and U11 to play in the quarter-finals of the Suva primary schools netball competition.

Team manager Veronica Tawake said the players were focused on playing rather than being scared of playing some well-known schools.

“Whenever the girls hear they’re playing any well known school, that feeling of fear comes into their minds,” she said.

“It affects them during training, so we’re drilling them to be tough.

“We got to mould them in a sense that they don’t fear anyone or any school.

“It’s a long process and I thank the coaches for giving in their time to help our girls prepare, especially for the quarter-finals.

“This weekend’s games will determine if we make it through or not.

“The onus is on the girls to prove themselves. We have to push them hard to be tough because the toughest will survive any obstacle,” she said.

Tawake said Veiuto Primary would be one of the big schools that would be a threat to them. In the U9 SMPS will play Veiuto Primary and Stella Maris Primary in the U11 grade.
