FIJI Pearls skipper Vaiti Waqatabu is calling on her players, especially the young ones, to make a good use of their Europe tour.
She said the Pearls had been given the lifetime opportunity of playing against Europe’s netball heavyweights and for her players to gauge their standard against these top teams.
The Suva-based Fiji Corrections Service officer said the tour would be a great opportunity for the team to test their combination in readiness for next year’s Commonwealth Games and the World Cup.
The Pearls will face Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and later meet England in a training match.
Waqatabu said she looked forward to the challenge of leading the team with high hopes of delivering the goods required by the team management.
She said being selected to lead the side was also a good opportunity to pass on her experience to the new netters.
“It’s a great opportunity but comes with a challenge but I am privileged to lead this team,” said Waqatabu.
“It is going to be tough facing these top nations as they have experienced players in their respective sides.
“Our objective is to work on teamwork, court balance and to be consistency in our performance.
“This is also a good opportunity for the young players in the team to learn from these games.”
Waqatabu said the games would be a wonderful buildup for their future internationals.
“This is a good platform for the team and the starting of our preparation to the Commonwealth Games,” she added.
The side will face Wales in their first game this weekend.
