NEWLY-APPOINTED Fiji netball coach Kate Carpenter will be present at the Digicel Punjas National Netball Championships in Lautoka this weekend.
Carpenter, a former Northern Ireland coach who recently guided her former side to a seventh placing at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland, will have a chance to witness talented netball players for the upcoming Test matches.
At a press conference yesterday, where Digicel Fiji and Punjas announced their sponsorship of $20,000 in cash and kind, Netball Fiji president Wainikiti Bogidrau also stated Carpenter would be at her first official duty in Lautoka.
“It’s going to be her first official duty for Fiji,” she said.
“Kate (Carpenter) just recently returned from the Commonwealth Games with Northern Ireland and she will have a good chance to watch our players in action.”
Carpenter will select her squad to prepare for the Malawi Test in November.
Meanwhile, Digicel Fiji commercial director Andrew Skelton said they were delighted to continue supporting Fiji Netball following a successful Digicel Tri-Series sponsorship earlier this year.
“We’ve been associated with Netball Fiji in the past and we’re delighted to be part of this event again,” he said.
Punjas Group marketing manager Gopal Jadhav was elated after the signing of the agreement in Suva.
“We’re overjoyed to partner Digicel and support the National Netball Championship,” he said.
“Most of our products are used by women and we’re happy to support the largest female participation sport in the country.”
Thirty four teams have been confirmed to compete at the championship.
