ONE hundred households in a few informal settlements in Lautoka were recently assisted with food packs and protective hygiene packs.

An executive of the Lautoka Ratepayers and Residents Association handed over the packs to the families on Tuesday.

Association interim president Allen Lockington said the assistance was for those who needed it most.

“We first targeted the elderly and upon visiting some of these communities, we found out that there are many others like the unemployed ones who also need urgent assistance,” he said.

“We hope to make another round of donation soon and we will only look at genuine cases and those who really need to be assisted.

“Rural advisory counsellors will assist us to identify those who really need to be assisted during this time of need.”

Mr Lockington said the timely donations from business houses in Lautoka had been of great assistance.

He said Punjas, some organisations and individuals continued to donate to them and this helped a lot in their hope to assist the needy.
