Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says he is well aware of the needs of the nation and does not need to be awakened.

Speaking in the iTaukei language at the opening of the Namosi Provincial Council meeting yesterday, he said he was awake and did not need anyone to wake him up because he was well aware of the needs of the nation.

He said this while referring to social media posts by iTaukei people living overseas, who were calling on Fijians in the country “to be awake” in the coming election.

He also said people had been criticising the Government because of the country’s debt level, but last week the head of ANZ bank said Government would be able to repay its debt.

He said it was not hard to repay the debt.

The economy, he said, was expected to grow in the coming years and Fijians would face all these challenges together.

He said changes were coming which people needed to prepare in advance for.

The war between Russia and Ukraine has caused the increase in prices of basic food items, especifically oil, he added.

These increases would be experienced by all over time.

The PM said VAT on 21 household items had been removed to help in our daily lives.

He reminded those at the meeting that since FijiFirst came into power, $46 million has been used on the development of the Namosi province.
