Over forty Heads of Departments in the Northern Division went through the Communication and Community Engagement (CCE) Training to prepare themselves for the 2019-2020 cyclone season.

The National Disaster Awareness Week will be held at Waiyevo, Taveuni tomorrow (October 15, 2019) until Thursday (October 17, 2019).

This training will enhance the knowledge and capacity of Heads of Departments on how well they can engage with the communities on the ground during or after any cyclone.

While opening the training this morning, Acting Director NDMO, Litiana Bainimarama said we all realize the importance of being able to communicate well in order to respond whether it’s peace times or emergencies.

“To have more impactful services and ensuring specific community needs are met, community engagement is paramount,” Ms Bainimarama said.

“Aligning tot the international commitments including the World Humanitarian Summit and Grand Bargain, Fiji’s National Humanitarian Policy for Disaster Risk Management also highlights the importance of establishing National Information management and communications with emphasis on building community networks and promoting localization”  she said.

The NDMO has been conducting awareness around the Island of Taveuni ahead of the National Disaster Awareness Week on Tuesday.

This training will allow HOD’s to be practical and engage full community participation where they can build resilient communication strategies that involves that needs of communities.

Participants for this training including Head of Departments, Provincial Administrators, District Officers, Assistant District Officers, Turaga ni Koro, Mata ni Tikina and District Advisory Council members (Northern).
