NDMO calls for patience

Update: 2:45PM NATIONAL Disaster Management Office director Anare Leweniqila is pleading with Fijians living in flood affected areas caused by Tropical Cyclone Josie to be patient.

He said people have to understand that low lying areas are still flooded, and to not make rash decisions about crossing flooded water ways to return to their homes.

Mr Leweniqila said with four confirmed deaths and one person still missing, it is wise to “wait down” on the weather for it to improve.

“At this stage we are just pleading with the communities, because we have four confirmed deaths and one missing person, so we are pleading with communities to adhere to the warning and advice that has been given,” Mr Leweniqila said.

For this kind of events, a lot of things require patience, so that we wait down the weather and we will allow everyone to go when the weather improves,” he said.

“Some roads and places are still under water, it?s because of the heavy rain being experienced in the high lands.”
