DEATHS resulting from non-communicable diseases within the Fiji Police Force have already equalled the total deaths from NCDs recorded within the force last year.

This was revealed by Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho who said the trend was worrying.

“We have already equalled the number of deaths in the Fiji Police Force from last year,” he said. “We had 14 deaths last year and so far, we have hit 14 deaths already. All these deaths are preventable. They are all NCD related.”

The police chief said since taking up office in 2015, there had been no record of a police officer dead in the line of duty or in action.

He said the issue of fitness of police officers was something he had been pushing hard.
