The organisers of the 35th Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s Festival plan to invite the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team to spice up the tournament which will be played at Prince Charles Park in Nadi from March 3-5.
The national selection squads, Fiji Barbarians and Fiji Warriors participated in the tournament last year and ended up playing in the cup final.
The Fiji Warriors lifted the title after defeating the Barbarians 24-12.
Nawaka Rugby Club president Eparama Sailo said they wanted to help the national team in their preparations for the upcoming tournaments in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.
Sailo said the club was renowned for producing many national sevens reps.
“We will send an invitation to the Fiji 7s team to participate in our tournament,” he said.
“They participated last year and raised the profile of the tournament.
“If they are available then they are always welcome to participate.”
Registration for the tournament is open. Apart from rugby 7s, volleyball and netball will also be played.
Sailo said the tournament was offering a total prize purse of $40,000. He said they were working on the breakdown of prize money for each category.
“The registrations are open and we are getting calls enquiring about the tournament every day.
“Police have already secured their spot and we look forward to the other big names to register soon.”
