Nawaikula loses seat

SODELPA MP Niko Nawaikula has lost his seat in Parliament after his name was removed from the National Register of Voters by the Supervisor of Elections.

In a letter to Mr Nawaikula, Speaker of the House Ratu Epeli Nailatikau has said he received a letter from the Supervisor of Elections on July 20.

In the June sitting pf Parliament, Mr Nawaikula had said in Parliament that his name was not correct on his voter card.

The Fijian Elections Office said in a statement the Supervisor of Elections has referred Mr Nawaikula to FICAC for it to investigate whether Mr Nawaikula provided a false declaration to a registration official when he made an application to replace his voter card on June 22, 2017.
