A NEW rugby star was unearthed during the HFC Bank Farebrother Challenge encounter between BLK Nadroga and Handy Finance Naitasiri Northern Bulls at the Ra Sports ground yesterday.
With the absence of seasoned Nadroga wingers such as Aporosa Tabulawaki, Apisalome Waqatabu and Mitieli Nacagilevu, the Stallions unveiled a new talent in 25-year-old speed merchant Esala Navori.
The Nadroumai, Nadroga, native was in fine form in his first top level game to score a brace of tries and won the best player award.
Navori said he was honoured to finally earn his spot in the Nadroga team after three long years of being in the development squad.
He said he was happy with his achievement and has set his focus to follow in the footsteps of other Nadroga wingers such as Napolioni Nalaga, JoelI Lutumailagi, Sekove Leawere and Isoa Neivua – all of who went on to make their mark internationally.
“This is a big day for my rugby career after being selected to play for Nadroga in a Farebrother game,” said Navori.
“I never imagined winning the best player award and I thank my team mates for their contribution to win this award.
“My achievement will inspire me to improve my performance at training and to provide tough competition to my fellow Nadroga players in the remaining Farebrother campaign.”
And like all other Fijian players, he said his aim was to wear the national white shirt.
“My dream is to represent the country in rugby and I will do all it takes to fulfil my dream,” he said.
“I have managed to break into the Nadroga team after three hard years of training and I will not stop here.”
