The Republic of Fiji Navy hosted the Royal Australian Navy Deputy Chief of Navy Rear Admiral Jonathan Earley and his team last week in another successful naval discussion.

According to the Fiji Navy’s online update the annual event was conducted at the Grand Pacific Hotel where both navies discussed areas of mutual cooperation and shared interests in the blue pacific.

Commander Fiji Navy Commodore Humphrey Tawake highlighted regional engagement in the Pacific noting geostrategic maneuvering in the region and the concerns of the island states with regards to sea lines of communications and climate change.

“Rear Admiral Early shared the same sentiments and highlighted Australia’s commitment to the region and in particular towards its Pacific island family,” the navy stated.

“Both leaders reiterated the need to maintain the peace in the region through adherence to the rules based global order and international norms.

“The talks also provided a platform for further engagement in the future and in particular the Pacific Maritime Security Partnership under the umbrella of the Vuvale partnership.”

The navy said during the visit, Rear Admiral Early presented RFN’s SBLT Namuira with a medal for his participation in an operational deployment with the Royal Australian Navy last year.

“A boat trailer was also handed over to CFN, CDRE Tawake to support small boats operations within the RFN.

The RFN acknowledges the support of the RAN and looks forward to future engagements.”
