Nausori Highlands murder trial: Lawyers to close arguments next Monday

State prosecutor Semi Babitu and defence lawyer Iqbal Khan will give their closing submissions in the case against Mohammed Raheesh Isoof next Monday.

The matter was listed for appearance yesterday.

However, Justice Sunil Sharma said the matter would be heard next week before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe.

Mr Isoof is facing five counts of murder and one of attempted murder.

The trial proper, which called 56 state witnesses, two defence witnesses and lasted 12 days was concluded at the High Court in Lautoka last week.

The accused, Mr Isoof, also testified and denied taking the lives of a family of five from Legalega, Nadi.

It is alleged that between August 25-26 in 2019, Mr Isoof killed Nirmal Kumar, 63, his wife Usha Devi, 54, their daughter Nileshni Kajal and her two children Sanah, 11, and Samarah, eight.

He is also charged with the attempted murder of an 11-month-old baby who was found abandoned at the scene.
