National TB Strategic Plan launched

Update: 1:39PM THE Health and Medical Services Ministry and other stakeholders launched the National Tuberculosis Strategic Plan for 2015-2020 last night.
The strategic plan is part of the World Health Organization’s END TB strategy to eliminate
the disease by 2030.
Permanent Secretary for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Josefa Koroivueta launched the strategic plan in Suva.
Tuberculosis or TB is a disease caused by the bacteria ‘Mycobacterium’.
The bacteria usually attack the lungs but they can
also damage other parts of the body.
It spreads through the air when a person
with TB of the lungs or throat coughs, sneezes or talks.
The National TB plan is part of Fiji’s move to eliminate the
disease altogether in the country by 2020.
