THE National Dialogue on Substance Abuse by Leadership Fiji will use the space for Fijians to see if they could come up with a solution to substance abuse.

This was the message shared by William Parkinson, the Chair of Leadership Fiji, while officiating at the opening of the dialogue held at the University of the South Pacific’s Australia-Pacific Lecture theatre at this hour.

While officiating at the opening, Minister of Defense and National Security Inia Seruiratu said it had bothered him as a parent and a citizen to see the indulgence of drugs within schools and among youths.

“There is no government without people,  communities and agencies so it all starts with us,” Mr Seruiratu said.

New Zealand High Commissioner Jonathan Curr said Fiji was far from being alone in terms of dealing with this problem.

“New Zealand sees the value of a sort of cross-nation approach in reducing the harms of substance,” Mr Curr said.

The dialogue ends today.
