Minister for Transport and acting Attorney General Faiyaz Koya says the national consultations on the Maritime Travellers Rights held in the Western Division earlier this week have been encouraging.

He said the whole heart of the exercise was to hear people’s thoughts and opinions on this important issue.

“We need to have people’s thoughts across the board from the different sectors and especially that from the maritime areas about issues that they may be facing,” he said.

“They have a right to transportation and I think their opinions have been valuable with respect to safety, their health and with respect to their comfort etc.

“All of these rights that we assume with respect to air travel also needs to be addressed with respect to sea travel.”
