Nasinu proud of Kahatoka

FIJI Gold Nasinu Netball Association farewelled the Fiji under-21 netball team and captain Episake Kahatoka as they departed for the 2017 Netball World Youth Cup in Botswana this week.

Association president Mereseini Delai said Kahatoka had been an inspiration to young players in the association.

“I am very proud of her achievement because she survived six months in the Fiji Police training trying to achieve her dreams as a police officer,” Delai said.

Delai said Kahatoka had set a standard in balancing her work and sports.

“Netball Fiji chose a champion to be the captain and Fiji Gold Nasinu is proud of that choice.

“Kahatoka is a very soft spoken young lady and a keen listener. She joined Nasinu this year after she was recruited by the Fiji Police Force. She has leadership qualities and with her service to the Force, the Police team is our currently leading our points table for this season.

“”Kahatoka is the best example of dedication and commitment. We wish Kahatoka and the girls the best in playing against the bests in the world,” she said.

Delai urged supporters and netball lovers to support the team as this is a good foundation on how Fiji will host the 2021 World Youth Championship.

“Fiji has the capability to pull such a major competition.

“We’ve hosted a few Test matches, the Pacific Games and some regional netball series. I am sure that the organisers and sponsors have taken away with them some major learning on the areas to improve on.

“We’re building our teams of bench officials, technical staff, umpires and our players. This is the kind of opportunity that Fiji needs to test our progress.

“We need to improve on our sporting facilities in order to deliver world class experience that these athletes and the sports fans deserve.

“With the relevant resources we should be able to match any international netball facility in NZ or Australia,” she said.

Fiji is pooled with Trinidad & Tobago, England, Wales and Grenada.

Fiji will play their first match against Trinidad & Tobago this Saturday and Wales on Sunday.
