Nasilasila takes time

A MEMBER of the criminal investigations department at the Lautoka Police Station appeared yesterday at the High Court in the trial of eight police officers and one military officer who are accused of raping and sexually assaulting Vilikesa Soko and Senijieli Boila in Sigatoka two years ago.

Special Constable Timoci Nasilasila gave his account of what transpired on August 15, 2014, on a hillside situated along a dirt road near Yalavou, Malevu.

He said he was called by team leader Corporal Seruvi Caqusau informing him of an armed robbery in Nadi where almost $65,000 was stolen.

Mr Nasilasila said he was on leave and was in Nadi with his family when he received the call to report to Lautoka Police Station to pick up a team consisting of Mr Seruvi, Penaia Drauna and Kelevi Sewatu, who were all part of the CID unit which was also known as the Strike Back team.

He said he drove Mr Seruvi, Mr Drauna and Mr Sewatu to Sigatoka after carrying out routine checks in Nadi following the robbery.

Mr Nasilasila said when in Sigatoka, they received information that the suspects had passed Sigatoka Town and were on their way to Suva.

He said they reached Malevu Village where they were told to turn into a dirt road leading to a hillside.

The special constable said when they reached the area, his team members got out of the police vehicle.

He said he drove off to turn the vehicle around and when he returned to the spot where the alleged suspects were, he saw Mr Seruvi, Mr Sewatu and Mr Drauna with the two suspects alongside other officers.

Mr Nasilasila said he did not know the other officers.

He said after a while, the officers then loaded the two suspects into the vehicle that he was driving.

The special constable said both suspects were bruised and were clothed.

He said he then dropped off the suspects with two other officers at the Sigatoka Police Station before he was told to carry out other duties.

The trial continues today at the High Court in Lautoka.
