FORMER Fiji Airways Fiji 7s playmaker Amenoni Nasilasila applauded the national 7s team for defending the Hong Kong 7s title last weekend for the fifth consecutive year.

After attending his court case in Suva today, Nasilasila acknowledged the Fiji 7s team for the win in Happy Valley.

“I congratulate Gareth and the boys for the win last weekend and Jerry for making it five years in a row, and they stood their ground in Hong Kong as their own home ground. They played their hearts out and I thank them for making Fiji proud,” Nasilasila told The Fiji Times.

“The new boys have proven themselves in the team and good to see Livai Ikanikoda back and he was superb in the playmaker (position), and hats off to Paul (Paula Dranisinukula) for leading by example as a captain and he did well to win the biggest 7s meet in his first captaincy role.”

The Fiji 7s team now look forward to putting on the same performance for Singapore.

The highlight for last year’s final against Australia was a nail-biting experience for the players and the fans when Nasilasila’s pass in the dying seconds of play to Alasio Naduva to score under the crossbar in a 70m sprint and win the match for Fiji.

Nasilasila hasn’t lost hope of returning to the national team in the future.

He continues to support the team and the officials, and at the same time participating in local 7s tournaments for Ratu Filise, and in the 15s code for Vusu Brumbies at the Nadroga Super Rugby competitions.
