Nasara passes on

THE Fiji and Tavua Football fraternity is mourning the loss of former national and district rep Savenaca Nasara who passed away earlier this week.

Commonly known as “Captain With Injured Toe” Nasara led Tavua to victory during the 1994 Fiji FACT.

Tavua defeated Suva 1-0 in the final at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.

In a press statement Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel and its board members stated that they were saddened to learn the passing away of former national team player and Tavua legend Nasara.

Patel said another highlight of Nasara’s career was when he captained the Tavua side with an injured toe to lift the first ever Inter District Championship title at Churchill Park in Lautoka in 1995 after beating Nadi 2-0 in the final.

Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf acknowledged the contribution of Nasara on the football arena.

“It’s a huge loss,” Yusuf said.

“He was a great player of his time and contributed immensely whenever he was given an opportunity to do so.
