Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama’s comment that the 2022 polls “won’t be long” reflects his lack of knowledge about the election process, says Unity Fiji party leader Savenaca Narube.

Mr Narube was responding to the PM’s comments to former Fijians in San Francisco last week where he said this year’s polls would not be like the previous elections, in that it “won’t be long”.

“The fact that the PM said that the elections will be shorter also reflected his lack of knowledge about the election process,” the Unity Fiji party leader said.

“These pre-polls are held in remote areas, like the maritime provinces. The national poll is counted within one day.

“As always, the PM treats us as children, only telling us little bits at a time. It is possible that he has not been told the date of the election himself.”

The former Reserve Bank of Fiji governor said the PM should be more specific and tell the country when exactly in 2022 the general election was going to be held.
