NAMAKA Football One will be banking on its experienced players to provide the spark against Aries Warriors during the second round of the Nadi Football Association local league at Prince Charles Park this Sunday.
In the opening round last week, Namaka One defeated Cabrini Mans FC 3-0.
District reps Samuela Drudru, Isoa Ratuva and Vunici Tikomaimereke scored a goal each for the defending champions.
Namaka One coach Pranesh Amarsee said they made a slow start in the fixture and led by a goal at halftime.
Amarsee said their opponents were much fitter.
“Our strike force misfired a bit despite creating a lot of opportunities,” he said.
“The opposition goalkeeper was very good making numerous saves. It took time for the boys to settle and that always happens in the first match.
“This year’s competition will be tougher as the other clubs have been strengthened with the recruitment of players in the recent transfer window.”
Aries Warriors recorded the biggest winning margin of round one hammering Qeleloa Youth One 8-0.
Amarsee said they were wary of the scoring prowess of Aries Warriors team.
Meanwhile the association’s chief executive officer Salen Kumar said they were still looking for a sponsor for the competition.
During the official parade last week, Navakai (super premier) and FSC Navu (premier) were judged as the best dressed teams.
Both teams received a mitre football donated by the association’s vice president Mohammed Nasir.
