THE Nakelo rugby team were crowned the 2018 Tailevu Rugby Union club game competition winners beating Kasavu 20 -14 at Ratu Cakobau Park last Saturday.

Superboot fullback Apisai Susu was the toast of the Fiji Bitter green machine scoring 10 points from two penalties and two conversions to secure the crucial victory.

The Isikeli Tami coached sided dominated territory and possession playing professional and clean rugby all throughout the game resulting in their win.

The team was boosted with the presence of Fiji rugby U20 rep Ilikena Vudogo who touched down the team’s first score in the first half of the game

Vudogo was and is still a registered player for Nakelo before he was recruited into the Tailevu team and later went on to don the Fiji jersey.

Kasavu who had the services of former Flying Fijians rep Waisea Luveniyali and his brother Aisake had themselves to blame as basic errors and some costly individual decision-making cost them the game.

Nakelo team captain Kalivati Rainima can only thank God and the unity within the team that enabled them to come out victorious.

Rainima also thanked the team management, Vanua o Nakelo and die-hard fans who painted Ratu Cakobau Park green last Saturday for their commitment and endless support for the team.

“We believe that we who live in Nakelo and those who reside in various parts of Fiji and overseas are ecstatic about the win and that the win is for us all.”

Meanwhile a total of 23 teams competed throughout the year in the Tailevu Rugby Union club game competition.
