As of this month, 23 cases of dengue fever and eight cases of leptospirosis were recorded in the Naitasiri Province.

This, according to Naitasiri Medical Subdivision medical officer Dr Ilisapeci Lasaro.

Speaking during the provincial council meeting at Sawani Village, Naitasiri last week, she said last year the province recorded 95 cases of dengue fever and 48 cases of leptospirosis.

For typhoid, she said the province recorded nine cases last year and 16 cases in 2019.

She said the three communicable diseases were recorded all over the provinces but no one died.

She urged people to be vigilant and practice good hygiene because most villages in the province carelessly dispose their garbage, turning them into breeding places for mosquitoes.

She said it was not the responsibility of health workers to clean villages.

Meanwhile, she also urged people in the 14 districts to register for the COVID-19 vaccine, adding it was safe and would protect them from the virus.
