NAITASIRI Secondary School is wasting no time as it gears up for the Fiji Secondary Schools’ Nasinu, Naitasiri, Nausori (Triple N) athletics competition.

NSS coach Samuela Railoa said they were using all necessary resources to help his squad in good shape before the competition.

“It is tough coming all the way from Naitasiri to take part in the Athletics Fiji competition on the weekend because we don’t have the resources,” Railoa said.

“We are grateful that with the support of the school, we are helping our athletes prepare well.

“This school looks after students from villages of Nairukuruku, Navuniyasi, Nabena, Matailobau, Delaitoga, Naqara, and Nauluwai to name a few. We are representing these villages.

“Since this our first time taking part in the Athletics Fiji competition we are grasping everything we can to help us prepare.

“Our athletes are camping in school, so their training schedule is in the morning and after the school hours.

“We are thankful to the school for paying our transport to come and train and also to the teachers who have been looking after these athletes during their camp.

“So we are here not just to come and learn but for the athletes to adapt themselves running in the tracks.” Railoa said they would focus on the long distance events.

“We are grateful to have our own athlete who represented Fiji in 2019 in the Pacific Games who is Vilimaina Naituku. She is now an intermediate athlete running in the 1500 metres and has been helping our sub junior runners. She has been a bonus to us.

“We have a good squad and we’re looking forward to the day of the competition.”
