UTILITY Sakaraia Naisua was the hero for his Suva football side after scoring a decisive goal in the 2-1 win over Vodafone Premier League champion Nadi at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori yesterday.
Former Nadi defender Filipe Baravilala gave Suva an early lead in the match with a 23rd minute goal. Midfielder Nickel Chand supplied him with the quality ball and Baravilala witout making any mistake shot past Nadi goalie Vereti Dickson.
Suva enjoyed 1-0 lead at half time.
After Suva defenders became slack in their role Napolioni Qasevakatini punished his former team with the equaliser in the second half.
Ba man Sakaraia Naisua after combining well with veteran Pita Rabo scored through a difficult angle aiming at the far post and the ball landed in the net towards the end of the match.
Coach Gurjit Singh said he was not happy with the fitness of the players.
“It was a good win for us.Nadi was alway tough team to play against in the competition,” he said.
“I knew the boys would get tired as it was also hot today (yesterday) and now we should pick up from here.
“Fitness was also not there as just because we had good players and they did their job well then managed to win. Ben and Drudru were good as we have to work on Drudru’s combination to improve. We used Pita Rabo today in the strike force and hopefully Setareki Hughes would be back for the next game.”
Nadi president Navneeda Goundar said, “Anish Khem and Qasevakani were not fit as they were injured and they were also limping in the field. Suva was a better team on the day,” Goundar said.
“We have other matches remaining and we’ll concentrate on them.”
Lautoka leads the points standing with 10 points followed closely by Suva on nine and Labasa on third with six points.
