ONE of Fiji’s best basketball exports, Valerie Nainima, will be spearheading the Fiji women’s chances of getting gold medal at the Pacific Games.
Nainima and other overseas-based players have joined the national team with the exception of Miliakere Koyamainavure, who arrives in Fiji on Tuesday.
“I am honored and humbled to be able to represent Fiji at the Pacific Games this year,” Nainima told the Fordham University website.
“Over the past few years I’ve been blessed to be able to pave the way for a lot of young players from Fiji, and I intend to continue helping them by leading by example.
“I’m so grateful to my Fordham family for all the unbelievable support during my preparations, especially coach (Stephanie) Gaitley and Coop Gaitley (Gaitley’s son) for pushing me every single day during my workouts.
“I’m so excited to finally be able to embark on this incredible journey and am looking forward to whatever lies ahead”
The Fiji women’s basketball team start their campaign in PNG against New Caledonia on July 5.
The team: Amalaini Raluvenitoga, Disiola Boseiwaqa, Hannah Tui Koro, Leba Korovou, Letava Whippy, Makilita Koyamainavure, Mickaelar Whippy, Miliakere Koyamainavure, Seini Dobui, Tiyana, Kainamoli, Valerie Nainima, Vilisi Tavui.
