Naidu’s lawyer enters plea of not guilty

Lawyer Jon Apted entered a plea of not guilty for Richard Naidu in the contempt of court proceedings against him in the High Court in Suva today.

The matter was called before Justice Jude Nanayakkara.

State solicitor Gul Fatima appeared for the applicant, the Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum while Mr Naidu was represented by Mr Apted, Laurel Vaurasi and Filimoni Vosarogo, and the Fiji Law Society (FLS) was represented by Romana Vananalagi.

Mr Apted entered the plea under protest and with full reservation of rights.

The matter will be called next Thursday when a ruling on the Fiji Law Society’s motion for a New Zealand-based Queen’s Counsel to appear for the society in the proceedings that will be delivered by Justice Nanayakkara.
