Naidu nets maiden golf title in Lautoka

FORMER Lautoka and Tavua football rep, Lawrence Naidu collected his maiden golf title at the Golf Links on Saturday after winning the Motibhai Group of Companies-sponsored 18 holes stroke event.
Naidu recorded 66 to grab top spot in the A – grade.
Vice – captain Suren Pillay finished second on a fine 68 with Raymond Singh third on 69 after a countback from Anil Kumar.
Exchange and finance manager of Western Union Bharat Ram tasted victory in the B- grade with a swashbuckling net 63.
Most improved player of the year Vikash Chand had a steady round of 66 for second place with veteran Abdul Jalal third on 69 on a countback from Rusiate Kauniloloma.
Former club captain Robert Joseph was the toast of the C- grade winning on 65 followed by Arvind Pillay on 72 and Chong Lee on 73. Roneel Prakash won the professional category on 69 while also taking out the nearest to pin (NTP) on the second hole.
Arvind Pillay won the NTP on the ninth hole and the Brunswick Challenge chipping competition.
Lawrence Naidu hit the longest drive on the third hole.
Alex Qiokata had to fight tooth and nail with Steven Leger only to win on a countback on 70. Club chairman Raymond Singh thanked sponsors Motibhai Group of Companies for the continued support toward the club and the junior development program.
“The winners were all smiles to take home attractive prizes,” Singh said.
