DUAL rugby international legend Noa Nadruku believes the standard of Fijian secondary schools rugby league competition in Fiji leaves a lot to be desired.

“They need more improvement, especially with the referees and linesmen,” the former Fiji 7s and Canberra Raiders star said.

“The ref is a very important part of the game.

“The students need to understand the rules of rugby league better, especially the high tackles and the late tackles. They are not good.”

He said indiscipline on the field could be followed by boys and young men who wanted to join the sport.

“That is ultimately going to trickle down to the club, district and the national level. It is a big problem and that is the main part of what I am trying to say.” He said players’ diet was important.

“It is because of the way the schools run here. In Australia, it’s different, they got different kinds of schools that run the game. I think it will be a bit hard here because of the finance involved.”

The former Canberra Raiders player, whose club record of 22 tries in only 20 games in his debut season, made the comments after watching the Fiji secondary schools rugby league competition last week.

He is in the country scouting for potential rugby league players.

Nadruku finished his playing career with the North Queensland Cowboys in the National Rugby League.
