MOST athletes from the Nadroga-Navosa primary schools athletics team will compete for the first time in the FMF National Chow Games at the ANZ Stadium in Suva this weekend.

Head coach Niko Kororua said most of the athletes lived in the interior of the province and would be experiencing a national event for the first time.

“We have students coming in from the interior of Nadroga-Navosa, so this is the first time for them to step on athletic tracks,” Kororua said.

“We had difficulties in organising training venues because we don’t have proper athletic tracks, so we are glad that we could come a day prior to the games to try out the tracks,” said Kororua.

He said the team, despite preparation setbacks, aimed to do well.

“We are looking to get as many medals on the first day because it will set our benchmark for the second day of the games.

“We want to improve.”

He calls on the people of Nadroga-Navosa in Suva and surrounding areas to support their athletes.

“We hope our fans and supporters will come out in numbers to support these students,” said Kororua.

The competition will start this morning at 8am.
