THE Nadroga District Council of Social Services (DCOSS) will be presenting its case study at the Fiji National Policy Dialogue this week.

Fiji Council of Social Services (FCOSS) executive director Vani Catanasiga said DCOSS was an example of community engagement that needed to be shared so that citizens knew how to work together towards sustainable development at all the community, district and national levels.

“Nadroga DCOSS is quite unique because it’s driven by an intergenerational group of community leaders, including those who work in private sector,” Ms Catanasiga said.

“They were out in Nadroga communities last week providing health checks and awareness as well as counselling for youths together with a Brisbane-based group called Action for Child and the Aged (ACATA) with whom they have been working together for years.

“This isn’t the only community development initiative that Nadroga DCOSS has managed to do over the years, it has worked with many non-traditional partners to bring development to their communities. For example, they have a long standing relationship with Vodafone ATH Foundation and others which helps them to provide support to the communities they represent.”

She said FCOSS would continue to support local community efforts to drive the agenda for development by calling for enabling spaces for cross sectoral dialogues and partnerships at district and community levels.

The forum is from September 12-14 and will be held at the Southern Cross Hotel in Suva.
