Nadi wants futsal

THE Nadi Football Association will introduce its futsal league later this month.
The futsal league is aimed at building the skills of the players. A total of 16 teams have been targeted for the competition. The association’s president Javed Ahmed said they were sorting out the registrations.
Ahmed said it was a good initiative by the Fiji Football Association to grow the sport in each district.
“We are looking for a major sponsor. Futsal is more of a technical game where the skills of the players are developed. The district reps will be allowed to participate in the league as long as it does not clash with the district commitments,” he said.
The registration fee for the competition is $200 per team. The organisers are looking to divide the 16 teams into four pools.
The duration of the match will be 40 minutes with 20- minute halves and a five minute interval.
Ahmed said the Nadi Sports and Social Club courts had been eyed as the venue.
“Midweek matches will be scheduled,” he said.
“The two top teams from each pool will qualify for the quarter-finals.”
Successful business house futsal competitions have been held in Nadi in the past. The futsal league is likely to kick off on July 19.
