STAR players will feature for their respective teams during the Jack’s Nadi Rugby Union club competition quarter-finals at Prince Charles Park tomorrow.
Olympians Samisoni Viriviri and Kitione Taliga will represent their village team Dratabu in the super division against Nawaka.
Fellow Olympian Vatemo Ravouvou will play for Saunaka against Korotabu. Fiji under-20 rep and 2018 World Rugby U20 Trophy Championship’s best player Filimoni Botitu will start for Korobebe against Airport in the premier division.
Former rugby players who are now highly accredited coaches are guiding the clubs in the NRU competition.
They include Iliesa Tanivula (Gaunavou), Alifereti Dere (Korotabu), Ilai Derenalagi (Nawaka), Usaia Koroivunilagi (Army), Vuata Narisia (Western Marine) and Ponijese Lutuciri (Saunaka).
NRU games committee chairman Jeff Tamata said the household names in the coaching circles had boosted the teams with their superior knowledge on the various game strategies. Tamata said it was good to have the likes of Tanivula and Dere who had previously coached the national 7s team.
“The level of club competition has really notched up a level after the accreditations of the club coaches with level one and level two certificates,” Tamata said.
“A big crowd is expected this Saturday since most of the familiar clubs team in Nadi have qualified.”
