Nadi police officer allegedly attacked; Police will not treat such attacks lightly

A Police officer sustained injuries when he was allegedly attacked by a driver of a vehicle in Nadi yesterday.

Fiji Police Acting Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu said the officer, based at the Nadi Police Station, had stopped the driver after he was seen to be acting suspiciously.

He said in the process, the 34-year-old driver grabbed the officer’s arm, drove off and dragged the officer for about 100m away from where he had stopped.

“The officer sustained injuries to both his knees and arms and was taken to the Nadi Hospital. The driver was later arrested and is currently in custody,” ACP Tudravu said.

He warned that attacks on police officers who were merely executing their duties would not be taken lightly.

“Officers are merely executing their duties and working hard to ensure the safety and security of all Fijians in what has been a demanding period of operations, and everyone’s support is needed for us to see this period through,” he said.
