THE family of a 35-year-old man whose body was found in a creek near their home in Benai, Koronubu, Ba, have no clue how their relative died.
They said Erami Mudu went to the creek to bathe and never returned.
“As far as we know he was healthy,” said his niece Vasemaca Ramoce.
“My friend had crossed the creek while on her way to our house and she saw him lying in the water with his body facing up,” she said.
“She didn’t suspect anything and kept walking towards our house.
“She told me that my uncle was lying in the water and we both thought that he was sleeping.
“The water is shallow so we didn’t think too much of it.” She said about 2.30pm they went to the creek to bath and saw that the deceased was still in the same position.
“When I got closer, I saw that his body was a different colour. I called for help and we tried to revive him, but it was too late.”
Mr Mudu was pronounced dead by police officers who were called to the scene shortly after the discovery.
His brother Apisai Nanewa said Mr Mudu had been living with them for more than two months.
“He lives in Tabuquto and was just visiting,” Mr Nanewa said.
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said Mr Mudu was alleged to have drowned.
She said a post-mortem examination would be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.
