An app to promote healthy habits among the people of Fiji was launched at the Holiday Inn in Suva this afternoon.

Speaking at the launch, Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete said the app allowed users to monitor and visualise their meals so that they could become conscious of what they ate.

The project is a collaborative work between the ministry and the Centre of Flexible Learning at the University of the South Pacific.

The initial development of the My Kana Fiji App was funded under the USP Strategic Research Theme project.

The development of the Home Gardening component is funded by the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA), Netherlands.

“The beauty of the My Kana App is that it is based on our region’s database, the Pacific Islands Food Composition Tables and our very own Fiji Shop Survey,” Dr Waqainabete said.
